A Mini KISS Off

Guest post by Captain Finance

After reading the article I had to give a chuckle at how the band KISS and the car brand Mini were partnering up to sell off four Mini Countryman hatchbacks for charity. They were all painted to match the same designs of paint on the faces of the KISS members. Well, loosely at least, it was hard to see the resemblance between the members of KISS and a car. It is a touching move by a somewhat washed up band and a company’s need to cash in on the bands popularity.

KISS Mini Countryman Auction

Don’t get me wrong, I actually love the Mini brand of car. In fact, about two months ago I almost purchased a Mini. Let me focus on that word – almost. I never did. I actually made the two hour drive to the Mini dealership, checkbook in hand and planned to buy one that same day. Instead, I received poor service, a rude salesman, and one whole test drive around the block. I was at the dealership a whooping 15 minutes.

I know Mini is a trendy vehicle, and maybe the dealerships can afford to be rude. However, I have heard other horror stories about Mini dealerships. I also heard the service department is a joke which made me even more hesitant. So when reading this article, I see Mini is still trying to be trendy instead of actually improving the vehicle itself. Or improve their own salespeople so that maybe they can sell some of the special KISS stickers you can slap onto your own Mini. They are actually neat looking in their own right, but I don’t think someone will see a Mini with a KISS sticker and automatically recognize what it is.

In fact, besides the rabid KISS fans out there that dress up and go to all the concerts, who else would recognize it or be tempted to buy a Mini based on the KISS partnership? I don’t see those two going hand in hand. Maybe Mini would do better with a more pop band, maybe the Jonas Brothers. Then again, they don’t really have any markings on their face. Though they do have some incredibly hair.

Maybe Mini is trying to get in touch with the untouched KISS market out there? I can see someone dressed up as Gene Simmons driving a Mini down the road. Well, maybe to a concert with other KISS fans all driving their Mini’s. I have nothing against KISS, I just don’t care for their music. A lot of other people feel the same way, so could this hurt or help Mini? It certainly hasn’t persuaded me to purchase a Mini anytime soon. At least the money is going to a charity, so some good is coming out of this bizarre partnership.
